The World Health Organization defines
the term "sanitation" as follows:
"Sanitation
generally refers to the provision of facilities and services for the safe
disposal of human urine and feces.
The
word 'sanitation' also refers to the maintenance of hygienic conditions,
through services such as garbage collection and wastewater disposal
Management
of Waste in Hospitals is integral part of hospital hygiene and infection
control. Health care waste is reservoir
for pathogenic microorganisms, which can cause contamination and give rise to
infections
Infectious
waste contributes in this way to the risk of nosocomial infections, putting the
health of hospital personnel, and patients, at risk.
Nosocomial
infections are also called as hospital
acquired infections. They appear 48 hrs after admission into hospitals or
within 30 days after discharge
